Tracy Slocum Honored As A Woman Who Means Business

This is how Tracy Slocum briefly explains how she got the idea for what eventually became Pretty Rugged:

"My great-great-grandfather [Captain Joshua Slocum] was the first man to sail alone around the world. His pioneering spirit is sown into everything I do. I created a blanket because my husband and I would go out on a boat ride every night, and I wanted something that was luxurious and functional but I couldn’t find it on the market."

Her husband encouraged her to make her own.

"I made my own faux-fur blanket that's both waterproof and has windproof backing," Slocum said. "From there I created an entire lifestyle brand around waterproof and windproof and washable. That’s when Pretty Rugged was born."
